Draw for the IHF Men’s World Championship 2019 will take place Monday

Monday 25 June marks the first step on the path towards the World Championship title when the draw for the competition takes place in Copenhagen. The event will be live streamed on the championship website

The picturesque Town Hall of Copenhagen hosts the draw for the IHF Men’s World Championship 2019 in Germany and Denmark on 25 June at 12.30. The entire area in and around the Town Hall will be transformed into a huge handball event throughout the day with street handball in the Town Hall Square, shootout competitions, music and much more.

Inside the Town Hall the draw itself takes place and among the guests will be notable people from the international handball community as well as chosen Danish national team players, the German ambassadors and the national team coaches Nikolaj Jacobsen and Christian Prokop representing Denmark and Germany.

The draw will be accompanied with beats from one half of the duo behind the coming official championship anthem. The renowned musician will be revealed during the event as will the official championship mascot.

During the draw 24 teams will be put into four groups. 21 of the 24 participants of the event are already confirmed:

Hosts: Denmark and Germany

World Champions 2017: France

European Champions 2018: Spain

Participants from Europe: Serbia, Iceland, Russian Federation, Hungary, Austria, FYR Macedonia, Sweden, Norway, Croatia

Participants from Africa: Tunisia, Egypt, Angola

Participants from Asia: Qatar, Bahrain, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia

Wild Card: Japan


The final three spots for Ger/Den 2019 will be decided at the Pan American Championship, which will take place in Nuuk, Greenland, from 16 to 24 of June.

According to IHF Regulations both host nations have seeded one additional team in the remaining preliminary round groups: In Germany the home team will play in Group A (Berlin) and the host has seeded Croatia in Group B in Munich; whereas the Danish team be will be in Group C in Herning and they have seeded Sweden in Group D in Copenhagen.

The venues for Germany/Denmark are Herning, Copenhagen (Denmark – where Sport Event Denmark is a partner), Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Munich (Germany). The semi-finals will be played at Hamburg’s Barclaycard Arena while the finals will take place in Herning’s Jyske Bank Boxen.
