Argentina, Brazil and Chile book final tickets for the 2019 World Championship

The final three participants of the 2019 Men’s IHF World Championship in Denmark and Germany are confirmed: Argentina, Brazil and Chile have clinched their berth for the final tournament (10 -27 January 2019) as Pan American participants. By making it to the final of the Pan American Championship in Nuuk, Greenland, Brazil and Argentina had booked their tickets to Germany and Denmark already on Saturday night.

Argentina defeated Greenland in semi-final 39:17 (17:8), while Brazil left Chile behind by a 32:24 (14:11) win. The 24th and final spot for 2019 was taken on Sunday evening by Chile, the winner of the bronze medal match at Nuuk, thanks to a 39:36 (16:16, 31:31) after extra time in a thrilling match against Greenland. The last open decision is the new Pan American champion, the final will be carried out later tonight.

The winner will be seeded in performance row/pot 4 in the draw on Monday (25 June, 12:30 hrs. local time) in Copenhagen, while the Pan American silver and bronze medallists will be part of pot 5. The draw event will be livestreamed on the official website

1: France, Spain, Sweden (will play in Group C in Copenhagen), Denmark (will play in Group D in Henring)

2. Croatia (will play in Group B in Munich), Russia, Norway, Hungary

3: Qatar, Germany (will play in Group in Berlin), Austria, Fyr Macedonia

4: Serbia, Tunisia, Iceland, Pan America 1 (Brazil/Argentina)

5. Pan America 2 (Argentina/Brazil), Egypt, Bahrain, Chile

6: Korea (will play in Group A in Berlin), Saudi Arabia, Angola, Japan

Venues of the Preliminary Round of the 2019 IHF Men’s World Championship are Copenhagen, Herning, Berlin and Munich, the Main Round will be staged in Herning and Cologne, the Presidents’ Cup in Copenhagen and Cologne. The semi-finals are on 25 January at Hamburg, while the Placement Round for the positions 5 to 8 is played at Herning on 25/26 January). All medal matches (gold and bronze) are at Herning on 27 January.

The World Champion will qualify directly for the 2020 Olympic Games at Tokyo as well as for the 2021 World Championship in Egypt. Tickets for all matches and venues are available online on
